Taqreenis, an IT technology and software company that has been building encryption technology for the security services, is set to be a key partner in a new $US7 billion arms deal that has already been signed.
A US defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Taqenis was among six firms being sought by the Pentagon to help it negotiate a new deal with Iran that would see Tehran purchase up to 1,000 of its latest generation F-16 fighter jets and up to 30 new ballistic missiles from the US-based firm.
Iran, a major U.S. and NATO ally, is one of the principal buyers of the F-15 fighter jets the US has been using to fly sorties against ISIL fighters in Syria.
The Pentagon and its allies, including India, have long sought a way to stop the flow of weapons from Iran to Syria and Iraq.
“The Taqeehnis deal is going to be important in terms of ensuring that we have a viable military response against ISIL,” the official said.
A senior official at India’s defence ministry said Taqees technology had been developed with support from the Indian Institutes of Technology in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, two of the world’s top research centres in cryptography.
Taqreenis is among the largest players in the security and IT sectors in India, with its main customers including India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Ahmedabad.
In recent years, Taqenehas built a robust network of partners across the globe who share its deep expertise in the field of digital security, said its managing director, Abhishek Mukherjee.
The company’s main business is in digital security and data protection.
Taqeen also provides encryption software for the Indian military, which is using it to protect sensitive communications and data, Mukherji said.
The company will be responsible for developing encryption technology that is used by the Indian Armed Forces, the defence ministry official said, without specifying which government or armed forces would benefit from the technology.
As part of the deal, Taqs technology is also being used by Iranian intelligence agencies and other security and intelligence agencies in Iraq.
The Iranian intelligence agency is said to have developed encryption software that has now been used by Iraq’s security forces.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said last month that Iran would be ready to share Taqreens technology in the fight against terrorism.
Rouhani said Iran would use Taqree’s technology for protecting sensitive military and diplomatic communications.
Since the start of the Iran-Iraq war in 1990, Tehran has made considerable efforts to acquire technology from abroad, including through Taqrees cooperation with Silicon Valley, which it has also used to build a network of cyber-warriors.
Taqreenhas is a unit of the Indian Information Technology Infrastructure Corporation, a joint venture of Tata Consultancy Services and IBM India, which has a global presence.
There is also a Taqner-India partnership in the area of IT services.
India has also recently bought Taqaneesh’s technology to provide encrypted communication platforms for the military.
