The goehic Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara has been the subject of an internal investigation by the university.
The institute, which was founded in 1913 by American economist Karl Popper, has an undergraduate program in economics and a graduate program in sociology.
The university is notifying students about the situation.
The investigation was initiated by the school’s Office of Student Affairs, which oversees student conduct and discipline.
The complaint was made in response to a complaint filed by the Office of the Dean of Students, according to the school.
The complaint alleged that a professor had sent inappropriate and sexually explicit emails to students.
