The economy is the most important of the four, according to a CNN/ORC International poll.
The economy and the nation’s future are closely tied, with 50% saying the economy is more critical to the country’s future, compared with 38% who say the same of education.
This is the first time CNN/Opinion Research Corporation has asked the question, and the results were based on a random sample of 1,007 adults nationwide.
Education is the second most important, followed by jobs, and health care is the third most important.
The economy comes in at No. 3 with 39%, followed by a jobs-related number of 37%.
Education is at the top of the list of important issues, but the jobs question is the issue that is the closest to the American public.
Nearly seven in 10 Americans (68%) say the economy and jobs are more important to the future of the country, while only 28% say they are more crucial.
The rest say education is more crucial, with 20% saying they believe education is most important to them.
When asked to name the top issues facing the country today, nearly three-quarters of Americans (73%) say they want to make it easier for people to get ahead.
Nearly three-in-ten (31%) say making it easier is more pressing.
The economy is by far the most critical issue for the nation today.
More than eight in ten (82%) Americans say it is the biggest issue facing the nation right now.
Education, jobs and health are all tied at No, with jobs and education tied at a close third.
The CNN/OPI Poll was conducted from April 13 to May 3 among a random national sample of 803 adults, including 803 registered voters.
The survey’s overall sampling error is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.CNN/ORL International surveyed 1,006 adults nationwide between April 7 and 11 using a sample selected from ORL’s probability-based AmeriSpeak panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population.
The margin of sampling error for all respondents is plus-minus 3.8 percentage points, including the design effect.
