A new Santa Fe institute is expected to close its doors in 2018 after more than two decades of operating in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The Santa Fe Institution of the Arts, founded in 1972, is expected for the first time in more than a decade to close the doors of its two-story, brick building.
The institute has been operating at a deficit of nearly $300,000 a year for more than four decades.
It was previously in a five-story building at 1801 West 18th Avenue.
The closure will be a blow to the Santa Fe community.
The institution is a pioneer in the field of arts education and is credited with opening up the arts to a new generation of New Mexicans and tourists.
