Posted November 07, 2018 18:16:07The latest Australian statistics show the country is one of the most racially segregated in the world.
It is estimated that there are more than 40% more black and white people in Australia than white people.
The new figures show that more than 90% of the population in the nation are white.
Some of the disparities in racial segregation are well known.
Professor Alan Durney from the University of Queensland said many Australians were shocked to learn that the population was more than twice as white as they were.
“We have been living in a world of whiteness for hundreds of years, but what’s happening is that the people who are going to the front of the line, who are in the front line of discrimination are the majority,” he said.
Black Australians in particular are facing discrimination in the workplace.
They are less likely to be hired, promoted and even promoted to senior positions in the same jobs.
In one survey, 77% of black and Asian respondents said they felt they were discriminated against in the hiring process compared to 61% of white respondents.
This has prompted a number of black people to go public with their experiences of discrimination in hiring and promotion, with some people in the community demanding the government investigate the issue.
Racism is still a pervasive problem in the country, with Professor Durnes comments calling for the government to take action.
As part of the report, Professor Drenny said it was time for the Racial Discrimination Commissioner to look at the issue of discrimination and ensure that discrimination is not tolerated.
